Hack the Bar started in 2008 as a private house system in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, in rooms we serviced: The Merk, Patrick’s Gaslamp Pub, The Keating Hotel, Minus 1 Lounge, and Away. We kept a book of who could run the well, who was current on their cards, and who we would put on a Friday rail. Other bartenders and managers in those houses used those records to decide who to schedule. This school is that book, with a curriculum and a certificate.
The Merk
Restaurant and bar in the Mercantile Building next door. House restaurant of the cluster. We serviced it. No longer operating under that name.
Minus 1 Lounge
Subterranean room under the Keating. We serviced the late shift. No longer operating under that name.
Patrick’s Gaslamp Pub
428 F St, same cluster. Live-music well. We serviced the rail.
Away
